Aspangbahnhof - Die erste Station auf dem Weg in den Holocaust: Nach dem "Anschluss" österreichs an das nationalsozialistische Deutschland 1938 wurden vom Aspangbahnhof bis 1942 insgesamt etwa 50.000 jüdische Wienerinnen und Wiener in 47 Transporten in Sammellager, Konzentrations- und Vernichtungslager deportiert. Nur 2.000 der 65.000 Wiener Jüdinnen und Juden überlebten den Holocaust. In der Nähe des Platzes, an dem das Bahnhofsgebäude stand, wurde am 8. Mai 1995 ein Gedenkstein enthüllt. Das Bahnhofsgebäude wurde 1977 abgerissen; 2004 als diese Fotos aufgenommen wurden, befand sich dort ein Parkplatz und eine Plakatwand ("Wenn Kinderseelen weinen"). Heute stehen hier moderne Wohnbauten und außer dem Gedenkstein erinnert nichts mehr an diesen Ort.

Aspang Station - The first station on the way into the holocaust: Following the annexation ("Anschluss") of Austria by Nazi-Germany 1938 approximately 50.000 Viennese Jews were deported to cocentration- and extermination camps in 47 transports originating from the Aspang station. The deportations out of the Aspang station lasted until 1942. Only 2.000 out of 65.000 Viennese Jews survived the holocaust. The station building was demolished in 1977. Since 8 May 1995, a memorial plaque near the former station is the sole reminder. These photographes were taken in May 2004, the site of the Aspang station was used as a parking lot then, the former railway tracks fenced off with billboards ("Wenn Kinderseelen weinen"). Today nothing but the memorial stone reminds of the deportations as the site has recently been developed into a residential area.
